Noor Mohd General Store sits right on Kaka Road at the Main Chowk in the Nai Sadak area of Srinagar. Our pincode is 190001. Being at the Main Chowk means we are in the middle of everything. There's always something going on outside the door. Our shop is small but we pack a lot into it. We carry things like oil, salt, biscuits, and seasonal items that people in Srinagar need. When it gets cold, we change what we keep in the front of the shop. The building is old, like many others around Nai Sadak, and it has that local feel to it. We know our neighbors well and often share a cup of tea when it's quiet. People stop by not just to buy things but sometimes just to ask about the news or what's happening in the market. We don't have a lot of space for browsing, so usually, people just tell us what they want and we pull it from the shelves. It’s been this way for a long time. The wooden floors creak a bit when you walk on them. We don't mind the noise; it's just part of the shop's character. Every day is different depending on the weather and the crowd at the Chowk, but we are always there behind the counter. It's a simple business, really, just serving the people who live and work around here. We just hope to keep the shutters open for many more years to come.
