Mohammad Younis General Store

Over in Munawarabad, specifically in the Sathu Barbar Shah area of Srinagar, you’ll find Mohammad Younis General Store. It’s a small shop that’s been around for a good while. Srinagar has its own pace, especially when the weather starts to get cold, and our store changes with the seasons. In the winter, we make sure to have plenty of those things people need to stay warm, along with the regular groceries. The shop is a bit of a gathering spot sometimes; neighbors stop by to pick up some tea or flour and end up staying for a bit of a chat about what’s happening in the city. The space is filled from floor to ceiling with all kinds of goods. It might look a bit crowded to someone from outside, but I know exactly where everything is kept. I’ve been working here for years, and I’ve seen the streets outside change, but the shop stays pretty much the same. We don’t have a website or anything like that; people just know where we are. Dealing with the daily deliveries can be a bit of a hassle when the roads are narrow, but we manage. It’s a humble place where we try to keep the local kitchens stocked. Whether it’s a single egg or a whole bag of rice, we handle it all with the same simple routine every day. We just want to make sure the locals have their essentials nearby.
