M A Provisional Store is based in Kral Yar, which is in the Rainawari section of Srinagar. I have been operating this shop for many years now. It is a simple provision store where we focus on the basic food items people need for their daily cooking. I stock things like different types of lentils, cooking oil, salt, and sugar. The shop is located in a very traditional part of the city. Most of the people who buy from me live just a few houses away. We don't really do any marketing or have a fancy storefront. People just know where we are. I am usually the only one here, so I handle the weighing and the billing myself. I use a simple notebook to keep track of things. The space is small, so the bags of rice and flour are stacked up against the walls. It can get a bit crowded when a few people come in at once. In Srinagar, the weather dictates a lot of how we work. When the winters are harsh, I spend a lot of time just keeping the shop warm. I have lived in Rainawari all my life, so this store is more than just a business to me. It is how I stay connected with my community. We don't sell anything high-end, just the honest basics for the kitchen. I try to keep enough stock so that nobody has to go far for their daily essentials.
