Kashmir Mahal

You can find us over at No. 1 Ishber Nishat. It’s a quiet place, especially when you compare it to the more crowded parts of the city. We’ve been operating out of this spot for many years, and it feels more like a home than a shop. The building has that old style to it, and we have items stacked up almost everywhere you look. It’s mostly my brother and I who run the daily operations here. During the summer, we get quite a few people coming by, but the winters are long and very slow. We usually keep a small wood fire or a heater going in the back to stay warm. The stock we keep is mostly traditional stuff that people in this area have always used or looked for. We don’t have any fancy computers or a website to track everything. We just use a big notebook to write down what we sell. Sometimes the deliveries from the suppliers take forever because the roads get blocked or the weather turns bad. We spend a lot of our time just talking to the people who walk in and having tea with the neighbors. It’s a very slow pace of life, but we like it that way. We don’t try to be anything we aren’t. It’s just a small local business in this part of Nishat. We keep the shop open until the sun goes down every day.
