J&K Govt

This is the J&K Govt office located in the government housing colony at Bagh-I-Mehtab. We are in House No. 18. It is a regular house that was turned into an office space, so it feels more like a home than a workplace. In Srinagar, the weather dictates a lot of what we do. When the snow starts falling, we huddle around the heaters and try to keep the paperwork moving. It is a quiet neighborhood, mostly families living around us. You won't find any big signs outside, just the house number and some people coming in with their documents. We handle a lot of different things for the local residents. It might be about housing or some other government matter. Sometimes the files get stacked up pretty high on the desks. We have an old wooden table where people sit to fill out their forms. The windows look out onto the colony road, and you can see people going about their daily business. It isn’t a fast-paced environment. We take the time to talk to whoever walks through the door. Often, they are our neighbors. We try to help them out as best as we can with the rules we have to follow. It is just a small part of the government machinery working out of a quiet street in Kashmir. We have been here in Bagh-I-Mehtab for quite a long time.
