Jahangir Provisional Store

Up here in Hawal at M K Chowk, the weather changes fast and so does the shop. We are Jahangir Provisional Store. It’s a small space where we keep all the basics. You can find salt, tea leaves, and heavy sacks of flour stacked against the wall. The winters are cold so we make sure to have plenty of matches and candles in stock. It’s a local spot where neighbors stop by to pick up what they need for dinner. We aren't doing anything big or fancy here. The building is old and the wooden shelves have seen better days. Srinagar has a lot of history and our little corner of M K Chowk feels like a part of it. Most of the time it’s just one person working. We know when the bread delivery is coming and people usually show up then. The floor is concrete and we have a small stool for when it’s quiet. If you need something specific, you just have to ask. We might have it tucked away in the back room. It stays fairly quiet except when school lets out. Then the kids come in for small snacks. It’s just a simple neighborhood shop for the families living around here. We don't use a lot of technology, just honest work and a simple way of doing things. We are here every day through the seasons.
