Indian Red Cross Society

We’re located in the Sanat Nagar Housing Colony up here in Srinagar. It’s a quiet residential neighborhood, which makes it a decent place for our Red Cross Society office. The winters get really cold, so we spend a lot of time huddled around the heaters while we work on our records. Dealing with health and safety in Kashmir has its own set of challenges, but we’ve been at it for a long time. The office is quite simple, just a few rooms with enough space for our meetings and supplies. We don’t have much in the way of decoration, just some maps on the walls and plenty of ledgers. Most of our work involves helping out the local families when things get difficult. People know to come to us in the housing colony if they need help with medical stuff or social services. It’s not always easy, especially when the weather shuts down the roads. We just keep going, doing the best we can with what we have. There’s a small garden outside that looks nice in the spring, but mostly we’re focused on the tasks inside. It’s a humble place with a dedicated group of locals running it. No big corporate vibes here, just neighbors helping neighbors out whenever the need arises in the city.
