House Boat Robinhood

Our boat, the House Boat Robinhood, stays moored near Gate-No9 on Dal Lake. If you come to the Mir Stairs, you can find us. Living and working on a boat is different than being on land. There is always something that needs fixing because the water is tough on wood. We spend a lot of time painting or plugging small leaks that pop up. It’s just part of having a house on the lake. The name Robinhood has been on the side of the boat for a long time now. Inside, things are simple. We have the usual rooms and a bit of space to sit and look at the water. It gets cold in the winter, so we have to keep the heaters going. In the summer, it’s nicer, but the lake gets very busy with shikaras going back and forth. We see a lot of people passing by our spot near the lead gate. Sometimes we have to move the boat a bit for maintenance, but usually, we are right there. It’s a quiet life mostly, except for the birds and the sound of the water hitting the hull. We don’t have big signs or anything. It’s just our boat. We keep the tea hot and try to keep the carpets clean, which is hard with people coming on and off with wet shoes. It’s a lot of work to keep a wooden boat floating and looking decent.
