Hakeem General Store

This store is tucked away in Haka Bazar, which is a busy part of Nowhatta. We call it Hakeem General Store because that is the family name. We carry a bit of everything, not just food. You can find notebooks for school kids, batteries, some basic medicines, and the regular grocery items like rice and sugar. The space is a bit tight because we try to fit a lot of things in, but it works for us. Living and working in Srinagar 190002 has its own rhythm. Usually, the morning is slow, and then it picks up after the afternoon prayers. I handle most of the work myself, from carrying the heavy sacks to counting the change. I don’t think we need a big sign or anything because everyone in Haka Bazar knows where we are. Sometimes the tea we get is very popular and sells out fast, so I have to keep a close eye on that. It is a bit noisy outside with the rikshaws and people talking, but that is just how the bazaar is. We have been here for a long time and have seen many shops come and go, but we just keep doing what we do. It is honest work and it keeps the kitchen running at home. If you are walking through the lane, you will see the jars of sweets sitting right at the front for the children.
