Gupkari General Store

Gupkari General Store is right in the heart of Nowhatta in Srinagar. This is a very old part of the city, and you can feel the history in the streets. Our shop has been around for a good while. We see all sorts of people walking through the area every day. We sell the usual things—stationary, some snacks, household items, and basic groceries. The space is quite small, so we have to be very careful about how we stack the boxes. If you look around, every corner is filled with something. It can be a bit overwhelming for someone who hasn't been here before. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us who take turns being at the counter. The mornings are usually the busiest when everyone is getting ready for their day. We talk a lot with the neighbors. It’s the kind of place where you hear all the local gossip. We don't use any fancy computer systems for our bills; we still do a lot of it by hand in a notebook. The building is quite old and the floor is a bit uneven in places. But it's been our place for years. Nowhatta can be a lively area, and we like being right in the middle of it all. We just keep the doors open and wait for the next person to come in.
