You can find us at Abi Karpora right on Dal Lake in Srinagar. We are at Ghat Number 9, which is just across from the Park Hotel. Running houseboats is a different kind of life compared to an office on land. We spend a lot of time on the water, making sure the boats are in good shape and everything is ready for guests to stay. It’s a family-run thing, the Young Shahzada Group, and we’ve been here for a long time. The weather changes fast on the lake. One minute it's sunny and the next there’s a mist coming off the mountains. We don't have a big corporate office with glass walls and air conditioning. Our office is basically the boat and the lakeside where we meet people. We handle all the tours and travels from here. It can get very cold in the winter, so we stay busy keeping the place warm with heaters. People come from all over the world to see the lake, and we just help them find their way around the area. We aren't into fancy talk or making big promises. We just know these waters and the boats quite well. Sometimes the shikaras get blocked up at the ghat, but that's just life on the lake. If you’re at Ghat 9, you’ll probably see us near the water talking to the boatmen. It’s a quiet but busy existence here.
