Bashir Provisional Store

Srinagar can get very cold, so at Bashir Provisional Store, we always make sure we have enough supplies for the winter months. We are located in Alamgari Bazar at Shri Bhat. It is an old part of town and the lanes are narrow. We have been running this store for many years. It started with my father and now we still do things the same way. We sell flour, oil, spices, and all the basic things a kitchen needs. People stop by on their way back from the mosque or after finishing their work for the day. We don't have any flashy signs or anything like that. The floor is concrete and we have wooden shelves that have seen better days. Every morning we sweep the front and wait for the first customer. Usually, it’s someone looking for milk or bread for breakfast. We talk about the weather a lot because it changes so fast here. If the roads are blocked, it’s hard to get new stock, but we try our best to keep the essentials. It is a quiet life most of the time. We know who likes which brand of tea and who prefers a specific type of rice. That is just how it is in a small neighborhood shop. We are happy to be part of the community here in Srinagar and we plan to stay right here for a long time.
