Gayatri Silks

Being right across from the State Bank of India on G.T Road means there is always a lot of noise and people passing by our door. Gayatri Silks is right in the middle of all that daily chaos. We spend most of our working hours folding fabric and putting heavy rolls back on the shelves after customers have looked through them. It’s quite a lot of work to keep the place looking halfway decent because the silk and other materials get moved around and tangled up so much. The traffic outside on the road is constant, and you can always hear the horns honking and people shouting. Inside, we just try to focus on the fabric and the people who come in. We’ve been at this spot for a while now. It’s not a fancy boutique with air conditioning that always works properly. We have some fans going and we keep the doors open usually to let some air in. People come in looking for something specific for a wedding or just a nice piece of cloth for a simple shirt. We show them what we have in stock at the moment. Sometimes we have exactly what they want, and other times we have to tell them to come back next week. We don’t do any big advertisements or anything like that. Most people just see the sign when they’re walking to the bank.
