The bypass road is always full of trucks and buses, so there is a constant hum of engines outside our door. It can get pretty dusty with all the traffic, but we are used to it. Our office is a simple one-room setup. We have a big table where we do most of the work and some metal chairs for anyone who stops in. We handle chit funds for the local people in Kadiri and some of the smaller villages around here. It is practical work. We spend a lot of time writing in ledgers and talking to people about their monthly payments. There is no corporate polish here. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, and the files are stacked a bit high, but we know where everything is. People come in, have a glass of water, finish their business, and go on their way. We don't have a big staff, just a few of us who have been doing this for a long time. It’s a busy spot because of the location on the bypass, which makes it easy for people to pull over and visit us. We just keep our heads down and focus on the numbers.
