Vardhman Dal Mill

If you head down into Udyog Nagar and go past the Chotti Lakhani Factory, you’ll find Vardhman Dal Mill at Shop No - 48B. It’s a noisy place with the machines running most of the day. We spend a lot of time cleaning and sorting through different loads of pulses. The air is usually a bit dusty because that’s just how it is when you’re milling things. We’ve been in this spot for some years now. It’s not the easiest place to find if you’re new to the area, but the locals know the way. Most of our day is spent talking to truck drivers and making sure the bags are stacked right so they don’t fall over. We’re not some big corporate office with fancy chairs. We mostly sit on wooden stools or just stand near the machines. The floor is concrete and gets pretty cold in the winter. We just focus on getting the work done and making sure the product is clean before it leaves the gate. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait around, which is a good time to drink some chai and talk. It’s hard work and your hands get rough, but it’s what we do. We just keep the wheels turning and try to stay on top of the orders that come in. It’s not easy, but it’s a living for us all.
