Urban Architecture Works

We are up on the first floor at B-5/17 in Safdarjung Enclave. It’s a decent spot, though the stairs can be a bit much if you’re carrying a heavy roll of drawings. The name Urban Architecture Works makes it sound maybe bigger than it is, but really it’s just a dedicated team working out of this flat. We’ve got desks pushed together and plenty of light coming in from the windows. The day starts early, usually with someone trying to find where they left a particular scale ruler. We don’t have a lot of frills here. The walls are white, the floors are hard, and there’s always a hum from the computers. Dealing with urban spaces means we’re often talking about tight corners and municipal rules. It’s not always the most exciting stuff, but it’s what we do. We spend a lot of time looking at site photos and trying to remember what the weather was like when they were taken. There’s a lot of paper moving around—contracts, sketches, invoices, and lunch menus. We aren't trying to impress anyone with a lobby or a receptionist. If you walk in, you’re walking right into where the work happens. People are usually busy, but there’s always a bit of talk about what’s going on in the neighborhood or how the latest project is moving along. It is a simple office for practical people.
