The Architects Department

We are up on the third floor here at Kalu Sarai, right near the Hauz Khas metro station. It's a busy spot in Sarvapriya Vihar. Most days at The Architects Department involve a lot of drawing and looking at site plans. We have been in this part of Delhi for a while now. The office isn't too fancy, but it gets the job done. Sometimes the walk up the stairs is a bit much if you’ve just had lunch. We spend a lot of time talking about how to make spaces work better without overcomplicating things. Being close to the metro makes it easy for folks to drop by, though parking can be a bit of a headache around here. We usually have rolls of paper everywhere and someone is always looking for a lost pen. It’s mostly just a group of us trying to figure out the best way to put buildings together. We deal with the local authorities and the builders more than we probably like, but that is part of the work. If you are coming from the station, just look for 58A/1. The neighborhood has changed a lot since we started out, but the work stays pretty much the same. We like staying busy. Sometimes the tea guy is late, which is the biggest crisis of the day. It’s a quiet enough place to think, provided the traffic outside isn't too loud. We just focus on the projects on the table.
