Nandana Biswas

My place is in Kalkaji, specifically at 1661 A in Gali No 15 of Govind Puri. If you’ve ever been to this part of Delhi, you know the lanes are quite narrow and always full of life and people moving around. I do my work from here, and it can get a bit loud with the street vendors calling out their prices and the neighborhood kids playing cricket nearby. The room I use is tucked away at the back of the building, so it stays a bit cooler in the middle of the summer. I have a simple wooden desk and a chair that I brought from my old house years ago. Most of my time is spent on the phone or working through tasks on my old laptop. Sometimes the internet acts up because of the thick walls in these old buildings. I usually have some snacks tucked away in the drawer because I often forget to eat a proper lunch when I’m busy. People find it a bit tricky to find Gali No 15 the first time they visit, so I often have to go out to the main corner to wave them down. It’s a very local way of living and working. The neighborhood is friendly though, and everyone knows what everyone else is doing most of the time. It’s not a fancy corporate office, just a small space where I manage my daily business and keep my files. I have a calendar on the wall with everything scribbled in red ink.
