Indian Book Depot

Indian Book Depot is located in the DDA Shopping Complex at Ber Sarai. Specifically, we’re at Shop Number 20 on Aruna Asaf Ali Road. This place is right opposite the JNU Old Campus, so as you can imagine, we see a lot of students and professors. Ber Sarai is famous for its book shops and photocopiers, and we’ve been part of this little community for a long time. Our shop is packed with books of all kinds. There’s barely enough room to move around sometimes because we keep adding more shelves. The morning starts with us pulling up the shutters and trying to organize the mess from the day before. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting boxes and climbing ladders. We don't have a fancy computer system for everything; we still rely a lot on knowing where things are by memory. The atmosphere in Ber Sarai is always academic and a bit hurried. People are constantly rushing to classes or the library. We just stay here in our corner of the complex, helping whoever walks in. The walls are a bit faded, and the floor is worn down from years of footsteps. It’s an honest kind of place. We don’t try to be anything we aren't. We just provide books to the people who study and work in this area. Sometimes we sit outside on the bench when it’s quiet, just watching the crowd go by on Aruna Asaf Ali Road.
