Down at Dhaula Kuan in New Delhi, we are based at the ABH Mess on SP Marg. This is a very well-known part of the city, right where a lot of the major roads meet. It can be quite a busy area with all the vehicles passing by, but the mess itself is tucked back a bit with some nice trees around it. We are Indian Army staff, and our daily life here revolves around the administrative needs of the mess and the officers who pass through. It is a bit of a mix between an office and a living space. There is always the sound of people talking in the hallways or the clinking of dishes from the dining area. We aren't here to be fancy; we just make sure the records are right and the facilities are managed properly. The building has a bit of an older feel to it, and we have to stay on top of things to keep it in good shape. It is a constant cycle of people coming and going, which keeps the day interesting for everyone involved. We don't have a lot of time for sitting around, as there is always something that needs fixing or someone who needs help with their paperwork. It is a functional, busy place that feels like a home for some and a workplace for the rest of us, and we just try to keep it orderly.
