The Henri Fanthome Office For Architecture is located up in unit 309 of the Qutab Green Apartments. It’s tucked away in Ward No. 7 near Dadabari in Mehrauli. Getting here can be a bit of a puzzle for people who aren't used to the narrow lanes around this part of town, but once you find 1064/ B, it’s not too bad. The office feels more like a lived-in space than a stiff workplace. We have books everywhere and the desks are usually overflowing with material samples and old sketches. From the windows, you get a decent view of the area, which helps when you need a break from looking at a screen. Mehrauli has this old-world feel to it that definitely rubs off on how we work. It’s not a quiet, sterile environment by any means. There’s always the sound of neighbors or someone moving furniture upstairs. We don’t go for those polished business pitches you see online. Most of our day is spent just sketching, drinking too much coffee, and trying to keep the files organized in those tall cabinets that never seem to close right. It’s just a small team of us working out of this apartment. We’ve grown fond of the quirks of the building, even when the elevator is acting up and we have to take the stairs. It keeps us grounded in the reality of the spaces we are designing.
