Ankita Machine & Tools

We operate Ankita Machine & Tools out of Naraina Village in New Delhi. It is WZ-48 B, and if you have ever been to Naraina, you know it is a maze of small shops and industrial units. The smell of cutting oil and the sound of metal hitting metal is just part of the daily routine for us. We have all sorts of machines and tools lying around the workspace. It’s not the cleanest place in the world, but we know where every single wrench and lathe bit is kept. People come by when they need something fixed or a part made, and we usually have to shout over the machines to hear them. It gets really hot in the summer, so we keep the fans going at full blast, though they mostly just move the warm air around. We’ve had the same neighbors for years, and we all help each other out when a heavy load comes in. It’s hard work and your hands are never really clean at the end of the shift. We don’t have a fancy showroom or anything like that. You just walk in off the street and find us working. It is a straightforward way to earn a living. Sometimes the electricity cuts out and we have to wait a bit, but that’s just life in the village area.
