Anagram Architects

Down in the basement of K- 110 in Hauz Khas Enclave, that’s where you’ll find Anagram Architects. Being in a basement has its perks, like staying a bit cooler when the Delhi summer really starts to bite. It’s a big open space filled with models made of cardboard and foam. We have stuff hanging from the ceiling and drawings pinned to every available inch of wall. It feels a bit like a workshop because we’re always building things or tearing them apart to see how they look. Hauz Khas Enclave is a nice area, very green, though the parking is a nightmare. We’ve spent a lot of late nights here, fueled by tea and the sound of the metro passing nearby. There’s no corporate hierarchy to speak of. If something needs to be drawn or a model needs to be cut, whoever is available just does it. We don't spend money on fancy furniture. Most of our desks are just simple plywood. It’s a place where we think through problems by drawing them over and over again. The floor is usually covered in scraps of paper and bits of glue. We like it this way because it feels real. It’s not a showroom; it’s a place where we actually figure out how buildings are going to stand up and how people will move through them. We just enjoy the process of making things.
