A Translation Point

Our little spot is located right in Munirka at Laxmi Market, specifically at 67A 2. It's a crowded area, but it's where everything happens. We spend our days looking at documents and turning them from one language into another. It isn't always easy work because some words just don't have a direct match, but we do what we can. We see a lot of students and people from the neighborhood who need their papers sorted out for school or work. The market is always loud, and there’s always someone stopping by to ask a quick question about a form or a letter. We don't have a massive staff, just a few of us who are good with languages. We try to keep things simple and get the papers back to people when we say we will. Sometimes the coffee machine breaks or the power goes out, which is just how things go around here. We’ve been in this part of Delhi for a bit and we’ve gotten used to the pace. It’s a practical kind of business. We don't use big words to describe what we do. We just translate things so people can understand them. If you're walking through Laxmi Market, you’ll find us tucked in there among the other shops. It’s a bit of a squeeze inside, but we make it work. Most of our day is just quiet typing and checking dictionaries. Some days are longer than others.
