Ferns Quality Foods

Our place is in Merces, specifically in Building Number 2 of the Merces Apartments. We are on the ground floor, in G3, which makes it easier for moving things in and out. Ferns Quality Foods started small and it’s still pretty much that way. Being in an apartment building means we have to be mindful of the neighbors, so we don't make too much noise. The kitchen area is where most of the work happens. It always smells like whatever we are prepping that day. We spend a lot of time cleaning up and making sure everything is in its place. It's not a massive factory with machines. It's more about hands-on work. We have a few big refrigerators that take up a lot of space in the main room. Sometimes we have to step over boxes when we’re in a hurry. Our staff is just a few local people from the Merces area. We talk about the local news while we work. It’s a very practical environment. We don't have a fancy website or a marketing person. Most of the time, we’re just busy checking the labels and making sure the batches are right. It gets hot in the afternoons, but we have an old fan that helps a bit. We just want to get the food ready and out the door so people can have it. It’s simple work, and we just do our best with it every single day.
