Our canning plant is situated at the Margoa Industrial Estate, specifically in the St. Jose De Area near Curtorim. It’s a large space at Plot No 8. When you walk in, you can tell right away what we do. There is a lot of water on the floor and the smell of the sea is everywhere. We spend our days processing and canning. It is a very hands-on process. We have a lot of local workers who have been coming here for years. The machines for sealing the cans are loud, so we have to use hand signals sometimes. We deal with whatever comes in from the coast. It’s a busy place when the catch is good. We don’t have much in the way of a fancy lobby. The entrance is just a plain door that leads straight into the production area. We keep our boots by the door. Everything has to be cleaned constantly, so there is always someone with a hose or a scrub brush. It’s hard work and the hours can be long depending on the season. Margao is a good place for this kind of business. We’ve become a part of the local landscape over the years. We don't talk much about our goals; we just make sure the cans are filled and sealed correctly before they go out on the trucks. It’s a noisy, wet, and busy place but we enjoy the rhythm of the work.
