You can find us in the basement of E-191 in Lajpat Nagar-I. It’s a bit of a walk from the main market, which is probably for the best because it gets too crowded over there. Being in a basement means it stays a bit cooler in the Delhi heat, but we definitely need the lights on all day long. Natural Silk Development India is what we call ourselves, and we focus mostly on silk and textiles. It’s a specialized kind of work. Silk is tricky to handle and needs a lot of care, so the basement is filled with rolls of fabric tucked away in plastic covers to keep the dust off. We aren't a big factory or a high-end showroom. It’s more of a workspace where we figure out how to get things done. Most of our time is spent checking the quality of the threads and seeing how the colors turned out. Sometimes the colors don't match exactly what we wanted, so we have to go back and try again. That’s just part of the process. We don't have a fancy entrance or a receptionist. If you come down the stairs, you’ll probably just see us working at a table or moving some heavy fabric around. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from morning until late evening. Lajpat Nagar has its own rhythm, and we’ve become a small part of that over the years. We just keep our heads down and focus on the fabric.
