Meraj Social Welfare Foundation

Hamzah Meraj started this whole thing from his own place here in Nizamuddin Dhorramafi. It’s not a fancy office or anything like that. Most days, we’re just sitting around the main room trying to get things organized. You can find us if you head down the lane near the local shops. It gets pretty dusty in the summer, and the power goes out more than we’d like, but we just keep working anyway. Sometimes the neighbors pop in to ask what we’re up to or just to say hello. We don’t have a big staff, just a few of us who’ve known each other for a long time. It feels more like a family house than a foundation office most of the time. There are piles of papers on the old wooden desk and the chairs are a bit squeaky when you sit down. We do what we can with what we have. Hamzah is usually the one answering the phone or talking to people who walk in off the street. It’s busy but in a quiet sort of way. We’ve been at this address for a while now and most people in the area know where to find us if they need something. It’s just how we do things here, nothing too complicated or flashy. Just some people trying to help out in the neighborhood when we can. The tea guy comes by twice a day and that's usually when we take a break.
