Village Carpet Dealers

Our shop is down in the basement at F-38 in Lajpat Nagar-I. It stays a bit cooler down there during the summer, which is nice. Village Carpet Dealers isn't the kind of place you’d find in a mall. We have stacks of rugs piled high, and sometimes you have to move five things just to see the one at the bottom. The lighting is a bit dim, but we have some bright bulbs to show the colors of the wool. It smells a bit like old fabric and floor wax. We spend a lot of time unrolling carpets for people and then rolling them back up again. It’s heavy work and keeps us fit. We don't have a lot of fancy decorations on the walls because the carpets take up all the space. There is an old desk near the entrance where we keep our ledger and the phone. We get a lot of regulars who know to come down the stairs to find us. Sometimes the basement gets a little damp when it rains heavily, so we have to be careful about where we put the stock. We aren’t really interested in being a big corporation. We just like carpets and we know a fair bit about how they are made. Most days it’s just us and the sound of the traffic from the street above.
