Sulekha Devi Foundation

You can find us over in Chhattarpur Enclave, right on the ground floor of D-294. Being on the ground floor is a blessing because it stays a bit cooler, but we do get a lot of dust blowing in from the street. Chhattarpur has changed a lot lately, getting more crowded every year. Our foundation, Sulekha Devi Foundation, is pretty much a local operation. We don't have a fancy lobby or anything like that. When you walk in, you’re basically right in the middle of where we work. There’s usually a stack of boxes in the corner and someone’s lunch sitting on a side table. It’s a very practical space. We spend our time trying to sort out issues for people who don't have many other places to turn. Sometimes the plumbing in the building gives us trouble, or the internet cuts out right when we’re in the middle of something important. We just take it in stride. It’s not a polished environment, but it’s where we get things done. Most of us grew up around here or have lived in Delhi long enough to know how things work. We don't use big words or try to impress anyone. We just open the doors in the morning and see who needs help that day. It’s a bit disorganized at times, but we always figure it out eventually. The nearby construction makes it noisy, but we are used to the sound of hammers.
