About Skin Craft – Fashion & Trends in South Delhi
If you find yourself in Govind Puri, you can find Skin Craft at 458/6 on the first floor. It’s not a big sign outside, so you have to look a bit carefully. We’ve been in this neighborhood for quite a while now. The workshop is always smelling like leather and various tanning oils, which some people might find strong, but we don’t even notice it anymore. We spend our hours cutting hides and stitching things together. The floor is usually covered in small scraps of leather that we sweep up at the end of the day. It’s a bit of a climb up the stairs, and they’re kind of narrow, but once you’re inside, it’s all about the work. We have a couple of old sewing machines that make a specific rhythmic sound that we’ve grown fond of. Usually, there are three or four of us working at once, sharing stories or just listening to the radio while we handle the material. The light comes in from the front window and hits the workbench just right in the mornings. We don’t have fancy showrooms or soft carpets. It’s just a place with tools, needles, and a lot of patience. Sometimes customers stop by to ask questions and we just talk to them plainly. We aren’t trying to be anything we aren’t; we just like making things out of skin and leather and doing it right in our little corner of Govind Puri.
