Down at Lajpat Nagar Iv, Daya Nand Colony 140, you’ll find us at Paipa Dance Classes. It’s not a quiet place, that’s for sure. From the moment we open, there’s music thumping through the walls. We have different rooms for different styles, and honestly, the floors take a real beating from all the dancing. We spend a lot of time sweeping up dust and making sure the mirrors are clean enough for people to see their form. It’s a bit of a maze inside with all the bags and shoes left near the entrance. We aren't a big fancy studio with a reception desk and a script. Usually, it’s just one of us sitting at a table with a ledger, keeping track of who showed up for class. The air always smells a bit like floor cleaner and sweat. Students range from little kids who can't stand still to older folks trying to learn a bit of salsa or bhangra. Sometimes the sound system acts up and we have to wiggle the wires to get the speakers working again. It’s a busy, messy, loud place, but we like it that way. We don't do big speeches about the art of dance. We just put on the track and start moving. The neighborhood is always active, and we’re just one part of the noise. It’s just a local spot for people who want to move around.
