M/S. Ahluwalia Contracts (India) Ltd. operates out of a spot in the D.D.A. Flats at South Niketan, which most people around here just call Dakshin Puri. Being in New Delhi, everything feels like it’s moving at a hundred miles an hour. Our office at 20/91 is usually quite cluttered. We have piles of files reaching the ceiling and desks that haven't been cleared in months. It’s not a showroom; it’s a place where we do the actual work of managing contracts. The neighborhood is typical for this part of Delhi—lots of people, lots of noise, and not enough parking spaces. We spend a lot of time on the phone trying to coordinate things between different sites across the city. It’s a lot of logistics, honestly. You have to figure out how to get a truck through these narrow streets without getting stuck in a jam. The staff here are just regular folks who have been in the construction business for a long time. We don’t have a lot of time for corporate meetings or polishing up our image. If there’s a problem at a site, one of us just hops on a bike or gets in a car to go fix it. We know the city and we know how to deal with the local hurdles that pop up every day. It’s just about getting the structures up and moving on to the next one.
