Mirza Fabric Pvt. Ltd. is down in the basement at 3 Firoz Gandhi Road in Lajpat Nagar-Iii. Being in a basement means we don't get much natural light, but it stays cool even when the Delhi summer is at its worst. The space is packed tight with bolts of fabric in every color you can think of. We have to navigate through narrow aisles to get from one end to the other. Firoz Gandhi Road is always humming with activity and there’s always someone shouting or a horn honking outside. Down here, it’s a bit quieter, dominated by the sound of fabric being unrolled or the heavy shears cutting through cloth. We deal with a lot of different people who come in looking for specific materials. It’s a hands-on job and our fingers are usually stained with dye or covered in loose threads by the end of the day. We don't have a fancy website or a marketing team. We just rely on the fact that we’ve been in Lajpat Nagar for a long time and people know where to find us. We eat our lunch on one of the cutting tables and talk about the news. It’s a cramped, busy, and sometimes messy place, but it’s where we do our work and we are used to the way things are.
