Ashok Battery

Ashok Battery is located at Khanpur A-245. It is a straightforward shop where we deal with all kinds of lead-acid batteries. The place usually smells a bit like chemicals and old metal. We have rows of heavy black batteries lined up on the wooden shelves. I’ve been working here for quite some time and my hands are almost always dirty with grease or some kind of battery terminal paste. When a car doesn't start in the morning, people usually call us or drag their old battery over here. We have a small machine for testing the voltage and another one for charging. It’s not a quiet place because there is always a fan running to keep the fumes away. Khanpur is a crowded area, so there is always someone popping in to ask a question about their inverter or their bike. We don't have a fancy waiting room. Most people just stand on the pavement while we check their stuff. I keep a small diary where I write down all the sales and the dates for the warranties. It’s a bit old-fashioned but it works for me. During the summer when the power goes out a lot, we get very busy with inverter repairs. It’s tiring work but it’s what we know how to do. Sometimes the acid spills a little on the floor and we have to wash it down right away so it doesn't eat the concrete. It's just me and my younger brother running the place.
