People usually find us over here in Pocket B of Sukhdev Vihar. It’s a quiet spot, which helps when you’re trying to concentrate on a drawing or a site plan. The office at 199 isn’t some shiny glass tower; it’s more of a place where we actually get things done. There are always rolls of tracing paper lying around and someone is usually complaining about the printer. We’ve been in this neighborhood for a while now. You get used to the pace of things. Most days start with tea and a quick look at whatever project is on the table. It’s not always glamorous. Sometimes it’s just hours of looking at topographic maps and trying to make sense of a slope. We don’t have a big reception area or anything like that. If you come by, you’ll probably just see us sitting around the main table talking about a specific tree or where a path should go. The walls are covered with sketches that have been taped up and forgotten. It feels like a workspace because that is exactly what it is. We don’t spend much time on fancy presentations unless we really have to. Most of the energy goes into the actual details of the land. It’s a small group of us here, and we’ve all got our own way of doing things, but akshay kaul and associates is just a place where the work happens.
