Being out in the Andaman Islands makes things interesting for a trade company. Shipping and logistics are a big part of our day, every day. It isn't always easy getting things to and from the islands, but we make it work. The office at the lodge is pretty basic. We’ve got our computers, some phones, and a lot of ledgers. It gets humid here, so we’re usually just trying to stay cool while we sort through the orders. We deal with a lot of different goods, trying to keep the trade moving smoothly between the mainland and here. It’s a lot of phone calls and checking on boat schedules. Sometimes the shipments are late, and we have to spend the whole afternoon on the phone trying to figure out where things got stuck. It’s just the nature of the business in a place like Port Blair. We aren't a massive corporation with hundreds of employees, just a dedicated crew that knows the ropes of island trade. We’ve been at this for a while now, so we know most of the local suppliers and the guys down at the docks. We just show up, do the work, and try to keep everything organized. It’s a busy life, but someone’s got to keep the trade flowing in the islands as best as we possibly can.
