Durga Maa Electrical

Down in Rajarhat, over in the Sikharpur and Chandpur area, you’ll find us at Durga Maa Electrical. Kolkata is always humid, and out here in the North 24 Parganas, it feels even thicker sometimes. Our shop is filled with wires, bulbs, and all sorts of electrical bits that people need for their homes. It’s a local place. We aren't some big showroom with air conditioning and fancy displays. We have shelves that reach up to the ceiling and a counter that has seen better days. Usually, it’s just the sound of the ceiling fan and the occasional rickshaw passing by outside. People from the nearby villages come in when something at home stops working. We spend a lot of time testing things and making sure they actually work before they leave the shop. Sometimes the power goes out, which is ironic for an electrical shop, but we just wait it out. It’s a quiet life in Sikharpur compared to the main city. We know most of the people who walk in by their first names. We’ve been here in West Bengal for a long time, and we don't plan on going anywhere. It’s just about providing what the neighbors need and keeping the lights on. It’s a simple business run by people who live right nearby. We don't need much else besides a good day's work and some tea in the evening.
