Shabanam Exports

Ray Charan Ghosh Lane is one of those narrow spots where you have to be careful how you park your bike. Our building is at 30/9, and it’s been the center of our lives for a long time. We handle exports, which mostly means a lot of paperwork and even more boxes. The rooms are filled with stacks of things waiting to be moved out. It gets pretty cramped when a new shipment arrives. You have to shimmy between the piles just to get to the back office. We don’t have a big sign or anything flashy. It’s just a place where we get things done. The walls are a bit peeling in the corners, and the floor is concrete. Every day follows a similar pattern. We check the labels, count the items, and wrap everything in plastic so it stays dry. The weather around here can be tough on goods if you aren't careful. We talk a lot while we work, mostly about what we’re having for dinner or the cricket scores. It’s not a high-pressure corporate environment. We know each other well and we know the work. Sometimes the neighbors come by to chat for a minute. By the time we pull the gates shut, the lane is dark and the streetlights are flickering. We head out, usually a bit tired, but ready to do it all again tomorrow. It’s just a practical way to make a living, and we’ve gotten used to the pace here.
