Das'S International is located down in Puratan Bazar. Diamond Harbour is a different kind of place. You can feel the air from the water. Our building is right in the middle of the market rush. Every morning the stalls open up and it gets crowded. We have a small office that we share. There are stacks of folders everywhere. We try to file them but new ones always appear. The desks are pushed together so we can talk while we work. It’s not a quiet place. You can hear the vendors outside yelling prices. We have a small radio that plays local songs in the background. Sometimes we get distracted watching the people go by. Our work involves a lot of checking and re-checking. We don't have a fancy coffee machine, just a kettle and some jars. The floor gets dusty from the street. We sweep it every morning but it doesn't stay clean for long. Most of us live nearby so the commute isn't bad. We walk or take a cycle. It’s a community here. We help the neighbors and they help us. We’ve seen the market change over the years but our spot stays the same. It’s a bit cramped and the paint is peeling in the corners. But it’s ours and we like being part of the harbor life.
