Tezpur Youth Welfare Foundation

We operate out of Ushan Ali's place in Keheru Khanda Gaon, right here in Tezpur. It’s a regular village home, nothing special to look at from the outside, but it serves us well for the Tezpur Youth Welfare Foundation. Being in the 784110 zip code area means we are surrounded by people we’ve known our whole lives. We are just a group of local people who thought the younger generation around here needed a bit more to do. There isn't always a lot of opportunity in small gaons, so we use this space to gather and talk about ideas. It’s a bit cramped when more than five people show up, but we make it work. We usually have the windows open to catch the breeze because it gets quite stuffy in the afternoons. We don't have a big budget or any fancy sponsors. Everything we do comes from our own pockets or from small bits of help from the community. It’s very much a grassroots thing. You won't find any corporate suits here. Most of the time we are in our everyday clothes, drinking tea and trying to solve local problems. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy. We like being part of the village life and helping out where we can. It’s not about making a name for ourselves; it’s just about making things a little better for the kids growing up in Keheru Khanda Gaon. We just do what we can.
