Sewpur Tea Estate

Sewpur Tea Estate is situated right along the A.T. Road. It is one of those places where you can hear the highway traffic even when you are standing deep in the tea bushes. This estate is not just a business for us; it is where we spend every single day of the year. The work changes with the seasons. Sometimes it is all about the pruning, and other times we are flat out with the picking and processing of the new leaves. It is a lot of outdoor work, so we are always at the mercy of the weather. If it rains too much, things get difficult in the fields. If it is too dry, that is another problem entirely. We have a small factory on site where we process the leaves. It is an old place, but the machinery still works fine if you take care of it and oil it regularly. There are a lot of families who have lived and worked on this estate for generations. We do not really do the corporate thing. We just focus on the plants and making sure the tea is handled right. The office is just a small room near the gate where we keep the ledgers. The tea bushes look different every day depending on the light. It is a lot of walking, and my boots are always covered in mud from the estate paths.
