The Jute Unit is tucked away in the Tezpur District, right within the Mahila Samati area. It’s a place where things are always moving. You can usually hear the sound of the looms or the hum of the work from the street. We deal with jute all day, so there’s always a bit of dust and fiber in the air. It’s a community effort here. Most of the people working are local women who have been doing this for years. We aren't a big corporation with suits and boardrooms. It’s more of a workshop where we sit together and get the orders finished. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait a bit, but that’s just how it is in this part of town. We keep our tools sharp and our hands busy. The building itself has seen better days, maybe needs a bit of paint, but it serves us well. We keep the raw jute stacked in the corner and try to keep things organized as best as we can. It’s a lot of manual labor and it gets tiring by the afternoon, but there’s a sense of pride in seeing the finished bags and rolls piled up. People know us as the place near the Samati building. We don’t do much advertising; word usually just gets around locally. It’s just us doing what we know how to do with the materials we have.
