Shri Ambika Bamboo Depot

Our depot is located right on Station Road in Tehsil Madha. We are very close to the Bank of Aroda, so most people in the district know exactly where to find us. At Shri Ambika Bamboo Depot, we spend our days surrounded by huge piles of bamboo of all different sizes and thicknesses. You can always hear the trains pulling in and out of the station nearby, which is the soundtrack to our work day. It is a very physical job. We spend hours unloading trucks and sorting through the poles to find the ones that are straight and strong. The ground is always covered in dry leaves and shavings from the wood. Local farmers and builders come to us when they need materials for sheds or scaffolding. It is a bit of a dusty environment, and my clothes usually show it by the end of the shift. We have been here for a long time, and I took over from my father. We don't have a fancy computer system or a website to show off what we do. If you need bamboo, you just come down and pick out what you like. We use a simple notebook to keep track of who owes what. The weather in Madha can be quite harsh, so we have to work fast when the sun is out and cover everything up when a storm rolls in. It is a basic way of living, but it feels good to work with your hands and see the local community using our materials for their projects.
