Shamlata Anardana

We are based in Village Medshingi. It’s in the Sangola Tehsil. Our place is near the Station Road, right by the post office. Shamlata Anardana is a small operation. We mostly work with pomegranate seeds, which is what anardana is. It’s a lot of seasonal work. When the fruit is ready, everyone is busy. When it’s not, things get a bit quieter around the village. We aren't some big factory. It’s more of a local effort. We use the space we have to dry and process the seeds. It’s a tradition around here. Most of the people working here are our neighbors or relatives. We don't have a marketing department or anything. We just sell what we make. The air here is nice, much better than in the big cities. We like being near the station because it makes things easier for transport. Sometimes the weather doesn't cooperate and the drying takes longer than we want. That’s just how it goes when you work with nature. We’ve been in Medshingi for a long time. Our address is simple, and our work is simple too. We just try to produce good anardana and keep the business going for the next year. It's a quiet life but we stay fairly busy during the harvest months. We like being part of the community here and doing this work.
