The shop is at Shop No. 5 over by the Park Stadium. It’s not a very big space, but we have enough room for the machines and the cutting table. Being near the stadium means there is always something going on outside. You can hear the crowds sometimes or just people jogging by in the mornings. We spend most of our time bent over the sewing machines or marking fabric with chalk. It can get a bit cramped when we have a lot of orders piled up, but we manage. The lighting could be better, but we have a few good lamps that help when we’re doing the detail work. My hands are usually covered in thread ends by the end of the day. We don’t really do any fancy advertising or anything. People just see the sign when they are walking to the park and they come in to ask if we can fix a zipper or take in a pair of trousers. It’s a lot of sitting and a lot of repetitive movement, but it’s what we do. We’ve been at this stadium location for a while now, so the locals know where to find us. It’s a simple life, just measuring and stitching from morning until we close up for the night. Sometimes the tea man comes by and we take a short break to stretch our legs.
