We operate out of the Jalsetu building, right across from Punmiya Hospital in Barshi. It is in the Solapur district of Maharashtra. It might seem like an unlikely place for ocean research, but this is where we manage a lot of our coordination and data work. The office is pretty basic. We have a few desks, some computers, and a lot of filing cabinets. Most of the staff live nearby in Barshi, so we have a good connection to the town. We do not use any big marketing slogans or try to look more important than we are. We just handle the administrative side of the research center. Every day is a bit different, depending on what the research teams need or what reports have come in. Sometimes the office gets a bit hectic when we have deadlines, but mostly it is a steady pace. Being near the hospital means it is a landmark everyone knows, so finding us is not too hard. We are not a big corporation with a shiny lobby; we are just a small team doing our part for the larger research goals. We have been in this spot for a while now and the locals are used to seeing us coming and going. The work is mostly about staying organized and making sure the logistics for the ocean and Antarctic studies are handled properly. It is a practical setup that works for us and the town.
