We are based out of Lakatola in Siwan, specifically run by the family right here in the village. Being in a place like this means everyone knows each other’s business, so you really have to do things the right way. Abhay Kumar Singh runs the day-to-day stuff from the house. It is not a big city operation with a glass front or anything like that. Instead, we work where we live and live where we work. Building things in Siwan comes with its own set of challenges, like getting heavy materials through the narrow village roads or dealing with the extreme heat in the middle of summer. We spend a lot of time just talking to folks about what they need built on their land. It is a lot of paperwork and manual labor mixed together. Sometimes the rain slows us down, and we end up sitting around drinking tea until the sky finally clears up. We do not use any big words or fancy talk to describe what we do. It is just construction. If a neighbor needs something sturdy put up, they come and talk to us. We have lived in Bihar our whole lives, so we understand how the soil is and what works for the local weather. It is a small operation, really. Just a few of us making sure the foundations are deep enough and the bricks are straight. We stay busy enough without needing to shout. (255 words)
