Prakash Rice Mill

Prakash Rice Mill is located in Jajauli Village, which is part of the Mashrakh Block. We are situated quite close to the railway station, so we hear the trains coming and going all day long. It is a rural setting, very different from the big city mills. Most of our work comes from the farmers in and around Jajauli. They bring their harvest to us, and we take care of the rest. The pace here is a bit different; it follows the seasons. When the rice is coming in, we are working from dawn until way past dark. The mill itself is a simple structure. We don't have fancy lights or a paved parking lot, just a dirt yard where the trucks pull in. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just have to sit and wait it out, maybe have some tea and talk about the weather. That’s just life in the village. The people who work here are all neighbors. We know each other’s families and what’s going on in the block. It’s an honest way to make a living. We don't put out flyers or use the internet much. People just know where the station is and where we are. We just keep milling the rice and making sure the bags are filled right. It is not always easy, but we get the work done eventually.
