Shri Balaji Plastics

Shri Balaji Plastics is out here in Thayilpatti, which is part of Vembakottai. It is a bit of a drive to get here but it's a good spot for what we do. The surroundings are mostly quiet, not like the big cities. We have a fairly large space because plastic items take up a lot of room. There are piles of crates and containers everywhere you look. The ceiling is high and made of tin, so it gets quite loud when it rains. We spend our days mostly organizing the stock and loading it onto trucks. Sometimes the sun hits the plastic and it has a particular smell. It’s not a bad smell, just what we are used to. Most of the people working here are from the local village. We know each other's families and what’s going on in the town. We don't have any fancy computers, just a big ledger where we write everything down. The yard outside is unpaved, so it gets muddy when it pours. We have to be careful with the items then. We usually start early before the heat gets too bad. By midday, we take a long break for lunch and some rest. Then we get back to it in the afternoon. It is simple work but it keeps us busy. We are just a local place trying to get the job done without too much fuss or extra noise.
